The Coffs Harbour community strongly supported a recent fundraiser by Bailey Centre Liberty Service Station and P.K. Express to deliver a $5000 result for the Parkinson’s Support Group Nurses Fund.

The initial plan was to raise at least $3,000 by donating 10 cents per litre of petrol sold. Local freight and courier company P.K. Express then generously offered to add 5 cents per litre sold to contribute to the outstanding $5000 result.

More than 30,000 litres of fuel were sold during the 24-hour fundraising period – 5,000 litres more than usual day sales.

“Our goal was to exceed last year’s result of $3000. We were delighted to top that by more than 60 percent,” said Tim Winders of Coffs Harbour Younger Person Parkinson’s Support Group.

“Our thanks go to the Bailey Centre Liberty Service Station and P.K. Express for their generosity, and to our friends in the Coffs community who came out to Pump for Parkinsons’.”

All funds raised will support the ongoing work of a Parkinson’s Neurological Nurse based in Coffs Harbour.

Parkinson’s NSW Nurses support and assist with in-home, hospital, clinic and nursing home assessments, supervision of medication, symptom management, referrals, emotional support and education for people living with Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition which affects the brain’s ability to control movement and can also be associated with other symptoms including mood, depression and anxiety. There is no cure.
